Washing your hair extensions at home doesn’t have to be stressful. With the right approach, you can care for them as professionally as a hairstylist. Here’s a detailed, step-by-step guide to ensure your extensions stay beautiful and healthy.
Preparation Stage
1. Gather Your Tools: Wide-tooth comb, gentle sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner, microfiber towel, hair dryer, and extension-friendly hair oil (optional).
2. Pre-Brush Thoroughly: This is the most important step! Before wetting your hair, gently brush it with a wide-tooth comb from the ends upward to the roots to remove all tangles.

Washing Stage
3.Position Yourself: Lean forward in the shower or over a sink, letting your hair hang freely to prevent tangling against your back.
4.Wet Your Hair Completely: Use lukewarm water (not hot) to thoroughly soak your hair from roots to ends.
5.Cleanse the Scalp & Roots: Apply a small amount of shampoo to your palms, lather, and gently massage your scalp and the base of the extensions with your fingertips (not nails). Make sure every attachment point is cleaned.
6.Wash the Lengths: Let the suds run down through the mid-lengths and ends. Gently smooth your hands along the hair—do not rub, twist, or tangle the strands.
7.Apply Conditioner: After rinsing thoroughly, apply conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends, keeping it at least 10–15 cm away from the roots and attachment points. Leave it on for 3–5 minutes.
Rinsing & Drying Stage
8.Rinse Thoroughly: Lean forward again and rinse with plenty of lukewarm water until your hair feels completely clean and no slippery residue remains.
9.Absorb Moisture Gently: Wrap your hair in a microfiber towel and press gently to remove excess water.Do not rub or wringyour hair.
10.Detangle Wet Hair: Hair is most fragile when wet. Using a wide-tooth comb, start from the ends and gently work upward to detangle.
Blow - Drying Stage
11.Section Your Hair: Divide your hair into left, right, and back sections.
12.Dry the Roots First: This is crucial to prevent bacteria and keep extensions secure! Use a medium heat and speed setting on your dryer. Lift sections of hair and blow-dry against the natural growth direction, ensuring every part of the scalp and each attachment point is completely dry. Touch to confirm.
13.Dry the Lengths: Once roots are dry, switch to low or medium heat. Blow-dry the lengths in the direction of the hair cuticles (from top to ends) while gently combing through with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.
14.Final Care: When hair is about 80–90% dry, warm 1–2 drops of extension-safe hair oil between your palms and apply only to the ends for shine and split-end prevention.

Now your extensions have received at-home care that rivals a salon treatment! With this routine, you can keep them looking flawless and extend their lifespan beautifully.
